Public Works Extraordinary provided for in the Estimates. A

plan of item No. 28 will follow at an early date.

You have already sanctioned the inclusion

of items Nos. 21 to 24 and item No. 31 in your Despatches Nos.

251 and 248 of the 15th. August and you have approved of item

No. 17 in your Despatch No. 11 of the 9th. of January last

while item No. 16 was reported to you in Sir William Gascoigne's

The expenditure to be incurred under items

Nos. 23 and 24 has been slightly reduced.

Item 26 is a new item. The work is neces-

sary because there is not sufficient room in the existing

Cattle Depot for all the cattle that are brought to it and

Government is losing revenue by being unable to accommodate

these animals. I have therefore to recommend the work.

The sum voted for item No. 27 is for the

preparation of the foundations only.

The road provided for under item 30 is

very necessary to improve the means of communication across

the Kowloon Peninsula, and I have to recommend that the work

be carried out

In item No. 32 I have made provision for

a continuance of the work of resumption of Insanitary Proper-

ties in the City advocated by both Mr. Chadwick and ProfessOT

Simpson and begun with your approval this year.
